ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY UNITE FOR KEFEE; FORM COMMITTEE FOR HER BURIAL

Over 100 members of the Nigerian entertainment industry gathered on Monday in Lagos to strategise on ways and means of giving late singer, Kefee, a befitting burial.
The meeting was at the instance of Pop-Gospel artist, Sammie Okposo, who provided his office premises at No. 13, Gbajumo Str., Surulere, for the meeting.
Some of the notable faces at the meeting were, Nikki Laoye, Anny Ibrahim, Tosin Martins, DJ Gosporella, Emem Ema, Wamilele, Princess, Tee-Y Mix, Perry Martins, Praise Machine, Mudi, Righteousman, Nene Soul Diva, Victor Gospogroove, Gordons and representatives from Kefee’s family.

Sammie noted that the death of Kefee has affected the Nigerian entertainment industry and the world over and not just the Gospel music community in Nigeria.
``Kefee was a major contributor to the development of entertainment in Nigeria and the industry will be there for her even in death. We are going to bury her as a queen and it would be nice for us to work together to make her burial a grand affair. It would also be nice to use this opportunity to get our acts together as Gospel artists and entertainers in general because that is what Kefee would love,’’ he said.

Also speaking, Tosin Martins, suggested that activities in honour of Kefee should extend beyond the immediate burial plans to include a more robust an annual memorial symposium and other events which promote the interests and passion of Kefee for posterity’s sake.

A committee called the ‘Kefee Memorial Committee’ (KMC) was thus constituted to plan the various events which would hold in Lagos and Sapele, the hometown of the late singer. The members of the committee are: Sammie Okposo, Nikki Laoye, Commorade Rex Anighoro, Momodu Inu Noah, Tosin Martins, Anny Ibrahim, Joan Paul, Aity Dennis-Inyang, Emem Ema, Gbenga Akintokun, Tee-Y Mix, Tim Tehilla, DJ Gosporella, Praise Machine, Victor Gospogroove, Princess, Perry Martins, DJ Direal and journalist, Chilee Agunanna, who was Kefee’s publicist

Cross Section of attendees at the meeting
The committee would plan towards befitting burial events in Lagos and Sapele and some of the proposed activities were a symposium and Service of Songs tagged ‘An Evening With Kefee’ in Lagos. There would also be a documentary of the singer’s life and times; performances of her songs by other artists; Kefee memorial merchandise and a tribute concert in Sapele.

Kefee’s husband, Teddy Don-Momoh, monitored the proceedings of the meeting from the U.S. where he is preparing to fly home the body of his wife.
He once again pleaded for the privacy of the family to be respected in these trying times.
He observed that some of the stories written about Kefee since her death were mostly untrue and cited the reports of a pregnancy which didn’t exist and the story that her body had been flown home as very insensitive and mischievous.
He also stressed that some reports that claimed that he was stranded in the U.S. and soliciting for financial help through a bank account were all lies.

Teddy said that, customarily, he would have to return home to Nigeria first, to be on ground to receive the body of his wife which would then follow afterwards.
He said he was finalising the required paperwork before Kefee’s body could be flown from the U.S. to Nigeria and once those were done, more details of the burial plans would be released.

Teddy said that Kefee’s family had requested that she be buried in their hometown, Okpara-Inland, Ethiope East local government, with a celebratory service in Sapele afterwards and that he was comfortable with that. Those, according to him, were the only definite arrangements for his wife’s burial so far.

Kefee whose real name was Irikefe Don-Momoh (nee Obareki) was a well-liked Pop-Gospel artist who had been active in the entertainment industry for the past ten years. She was born on Feb. 5, 1980 in Sapele, Delta State and was known as the Branama Queen, in reference to her debut hit track and album, ‘Branama’. She also scored a hit with the track, ‘Kokoroko’, featuring Timaya and had four albums to her credit— ‘Branama’ (2003), ‘Branama 2’ (2005), ‘A Piece of Me’ (2009) and ‘Chorus Leader’ in 2013.

A Condolence Register has been opened for the singer at her restaurant, Branama Kitchen, at 11 Ajose Str., Mende, Maryland, Lagos.

Signed,

Nollywood actress, Judith Audu, who was also in attendance, commended the initiative, stating that “it is always good to do things like this for the refugees, as it gives them a sense of belonging and lets them know that they have a family here in Nigeria, I particularly enjoyed watching Sammie Okposo and Nikki Laoye score goals each”.

For the first time ever, the Southwest Zone of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) will be hosting a World Refugee Day programme, with the theme: A Minute thought for the Displaced and Oppressed.
Since 2001, the United Nations resolved that the ‘World Refugee Day’ would be celebrated on the 20th of June every year, coinciding with the already existing ‘African Refugee Day’ celebrated by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) now African Union (AU). It’s a day set aside to honour men, women and children who have been displaced from their countries of origin due to war, violence, human rights abuse and in some cases natural disasters. In recent times, internally displaced persons have been coopted into the celebrations as well.

The programme of events will commence on Wednesday 18th June 2014 with a Symposium at the Exhibition Hall of the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos by 10am. The Symposium which will have in attendance Captains of Industries and members of the Diplomatic Corps, is aimed at bringing to the fore the plight of refugees and other persons of concern to the NCFRMI and seek areas of collaboration with various agencies and organizations. The symposium would feature a lecture by Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN), the immediate past Director-General of the Nigerian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS); A success story by a Refugee who has turned his situation around and with musical performances by Nikki Laoye (Recording Artiste/Humanitarian), who was recently unveiled as the Voice of Refugees by the NCFRMI in the Southwest.

The festivities would be rounded up on Saturday 21st June, 2014 at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos with a Novelty Football Match between a select team of Refugees XI and a team of United Nations and NCFRMI staff with celebrity guests Nikki Laoye, Sammie Okposo, Victoria Pepple (Silverbird TV) and actress Kiki Omeili.

To mark this day, Nikki Laoye (Recording Artiste/Voice of Refugees - NCFRMI Southwest) calls for donations of food, clothes and medical supplies for the care of the men, women and children who have been displaced out of their countries by wars, human rights abuse and natural disasters.

BEYONCE & KELLY COULDN'T WAIT TO BE A PART OF "SAY YES" SAYS MICHELLE WILLIAMS

Hot on the lips of everyone especially Nigerians is the remake/cover of popular Nigerian song "When Jesus Say Yes" by Destiny's Child, Michelle Williams.
An uptempo track laced with african grooves and produced by Nigerian producer, Harmony Samuels, "Say Yes" has been creating quite a frenzy as it is now seen to be a comeback song for the trio after a long while.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Michelle explained that Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland jumped at the chance to sing on her latest single "Say Yes," after hearing an early version of the track,
"They received an advance copy of the album and called, saying, 'We love "When Jesus Says Yes"… there has to be a Destiny's Child mix of the song,'" Williams said of the origins of the unofficial Destiny's Child reunion. "Kelly did it and Beyoncé got right in the studio and did her part. I kept it a secret because I didn't want anyone to know until it was time."

A shot from the Say Yes Video shoot

But despite Williams' best efforts, news quickly got out: Not only did an incomplete version of "Say Yes" leak, but Williams, Rowland and Beyoncé were spotted filming the video for the song towards the end of last month. "It was so much fun," Williams said of the shoot. "It was like we were little kids again. I have their back and they have mine. They have showed themselves to be loyal to me time after time. They have proven they are my sisters time and time again."

Produced by Harmony Samuels (Ariana Grande, Maroon 5), "Say Yes" is an EDM-inspired reimagining of a Nigerian gospel song, "When Jesus Says Yes," and will appear on Williams' upcoming solo effort, Journey To Freedom, which should see release in September. She'll be able to put the finishing touches on the album this summer as well, after the sudden cancellation of the Jesus Christ Superstar arena tour, in which she was set to play Mary Magdalene.

Williams added that she hopes the record will attract some of the Destiny's Child fans who didn't follow her into the gospel world after the trio split in 2005, touting the record's positive message and diverse sound. "This is an urban inspirational record so sonically it's very urban with pop infusion in there," Williams said. "I made sure that every genre of music I have ever done is represented on there."

NEW MUSIC: NIKKI LAOYE - JOY COMES (PRODUCED BY VICTOR OKON & NIKKI LAOYE)

As we sift through the rubble of trials & struggles facing Nigeria at this time, the soulful voice of renowned singer, Nikki Laoye reminds us that there's light at the end of the tunnel with the single release of the ballad, "Joy Comes".
Written in English and local Nigerian language, Efik, "Joy Comes" is one of the songs off Nikki's debut album, ANGEL 4 LIFE and was jointly produced by Nikki and PH City's veteran producer, Victor Okon.

The singer dedicates the song of hope to the families of the missing girls and to all Nigerians as she encourages everyone, saying

"Trials and Situations do make things look bleak at this hour but God has promised us that "Weeping may endure for a night but Joy comes in the morning light".
We have hope that our girls will be found; Our country will get better; You and Your Family will make it through...
We are strong & courageous and We will win this fight.
Keep Praying, Keep Working, Keep Believing...
It will turn around for our good as a people, as a Nation"
